COUN 5663 - Trauma, Crisis, and Theology in the Developmental Context


Examination of theodicy as it relates to the life of the counselor and its application to counseling with special attention given to trauma and recovery. The application of a theology of hope is emphasized. This advanced course treats the theological and philosophic effects of crisis, disasters, and other trauma-causing events on persons of all ages, as embodied in the theological/philosophical problem of theodicy. This course will also emphasize the impact of trauma exposures and how it may continue to manifest through the lifespan. This course reviews normative development and impact of trauma on developmental tasks, an overview of the attachment system and variations in attachment formation, and discussion of the functional nature of behaviors. Implications for treatment will be briefly discussed. Level 3 Course. Students must make a B or better. Class 3.
