COUN 5033 - Ethical, Legal & Professional Standards in Counseling A study of professional standards, ethical guidelines, legal aspects of practice, standards of preparation for the profession, objectives of professional organizations, and the professional identity and dispositions of persons providing direct counseling services. The ethical discussions include input from the profession, one’s internal values, and Christian worldview. Students will explore legal responsibilities and liabilities of clinical practice, confidentiality, code of ethics, risk management, professional advocacy, and other ethical and legal issues affecting mental health practitioners in daily practice. Students will explore their Christian belief system and values as it relates to ethical and legal standards of the counseling profession. Students are evaluated to assess their degree of fit for the counseling profession. Level 1 Course. Students must make a B or better. Class 3.
