COUN 5593 - Applied Lab, Ethics, & Treatment Planning The lab is designed to determine student readiness for practicum/internship. Students will engage in various role plays to demonstrate their counseling skills, techniques, therapeutic approach, professionalism, and discuss what they learned about the integration of theology and counseling. Students will also submit a paper showing mastery of APA and demonstrating graduate level writing. This course includes treatment planning, ethical issues, management of crisis, making appropriate referrals, maintaining appropriate documentation, increased awareness of self/personality, the integration of the Christian worldview, and the core conditions of a therapeutic relationship. Other topics relevant to the counseling process include information on licensure and credentialing and professional involvement in the counseling profession through the American Counseling Association and its associations such as IAMFC, ASERVIC and AMHCA. Students are required to take and pass the practice exam. Students must receive approval for continuance in the program on the Student Qualifying Interview. Professor(s) may recommend or require additional courses or other remedial work. Participation in this course does not guarantee approval to register for practicum. In addition to completing the prerequisites, students must also have a minimum 3.0 GPA for approval to register for this course. Level 3 Course. Students must make a B or better. Class 3.
