MEGR 5113 - Advanced Mechanics of Materials Exploration of theory of elasticity and theory of plasticity. Application of viscoelasticity models including – linear, Maxel and Kelvin. Comparative study of stress states in plates and shells as well as thick walled pressure vessels. Exploration of fracture mechanics analysis methods, advanced fatigue as well as creep and stress rupture. Introduction to finite element analysis using numerical methods, application of energy methods, and principle of virtual work. Macro and micro discussion of dislocation theory and strengthening methods including – work hardening, solid solution hardening and precipitation hardening. Class 3. Prerequisite(s): ENGR 2313 and MEGR 3323 .
