READ 3003 - The Teaching of Reading

This introductory course will focus on the foundations of the science of teaching reading. Teacher candidates will explore the pillars of successful literacy instruction including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Examination of models of reading instruction, organization and management of reading instruction, assessment, remediation, and learning exceptionalities will be emphasized. (May be taken by secondary and middle school education students).
