The LeTourneau University School of Nursing is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The BSN requires a total of 122 credit hours. These hours are divided into general education, theology and vocation core; nursing prerequisite courses; and clinical nursing courses. Based on the established degree plan, students will complete all pre-nursing requirements during the first 2 years of study and the clinical nursing courses in the junior and senior years.

The BSN is a four-year traditional program.  During the clinical part of the program, students work side-by-side with professional nurses to facilitate their learning and maximize their clinical experience.  Additional information may be found on the Nursing web pages.

During freshman and sophomore years of study, students of the LETU nursing program are considered pre-nursing students.  After completing the nursing prerequisites, theology and vocation core, and general education courses, students must apply for admission to the School of Nursing.  Transfer students are also eligible for admission to the School of Nursing provided all admissions criteria are satisfied.
 

Criteria for Admission to the School of Nursing:

• Complete all prerequisite courses and be within 12 hours of completing all general education and the theology and vocation core courses.
   
• Complete the School of Nursing application, essay, and references online in NursingCAS.  (www.nursingCAS.org)
   
• Complete the TEAS entrance exam, with a minimum score of “Proficient.”
   
• Submit official transcripts from other institutions. (Transcripts must be submitted during application to LETU.)
   
• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.  Students must have achieved a “C” or higher in all prerequisite courses.

After Acceptance

1.    Students must submit the following documentation:

        a. Proof of professional liability insurance

        b. Proof of personal health insurance

        c. Health/immunization records

        d. Proof of American Heart Association CPR training

        e. Drug screen

2.    All students must consent to a criminal background check.  A history of criminal conduct or conviction may result in withdrawal of the admission offer by LETU.  The blue card from the Texas Board of Nursing, indicating that the background check is clear, must be submitted.

3.    Students must read, understand, and agree to all policies and procedures as found in the Nursing Student Handbook.

Remediation for Course Failures or Drops:  As nursing classes build upon each other, it is vital that students are able to comprehend, apply, and retain information from each course and clinical experience.  The School of Nursing has implemented a mandatory remediation course for students who are unsuccessful (failing course grade or drop) in Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 courses.  The course content will be based on the specific needs of students but will be required as a prerequisite for moving forward in the nursing program.

After graduation, students will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN ® exam) and begin their nursing career.
