Biology

Biology offers the Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and, in cooperation with the School of Education, the Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences. Biology also provides guidance for pre-professional programs in medicine and health care.

The Bachelor of Science in Biology is a pure science oriented degree that emphasizes all of the laboratory sciences. This course of study is designed to prepare you for graduate studies, employment at the technician level in agriculture, government, business, or industry-related fields, or for admission to professional schools such as schools of medicine, dentistry, or veterinary medicine.

The Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences is a teaching degree designed to equip graduates to teach Life Sciences at the high school level. Students are admitted to this program through coordination with the School of Education.

Pre-Professional Programs

While medical and other health profession schools vary in the requirements for admission, nearly all have certain basic requirements that can be met at LeTourneau University. LeTourneau provides the appropriate programs for students who wish to pursue careers in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, optometry, and other health care professions.

Good planning, comprehensive advising, and counseling are important to the success of the student. Careful preparation will enhance opportunities for acceptance in the highly competitive health profession schools. Part of the preparation involves clinical education experience. LeTourneau provides this opportunity through arrangements with local health care providers and a network of local physicians. You should plan to participate in the clinical experience in your sophomore year and the first semester of your junior year. The specific courses are HLSC 2921 - Introduction to Clinical Issues and HLSC 2931 - Clinical Observation (2 hours).
