Educational Administration Specialization, M.Ed. (MEA):Global

The specialization in Educational Administration is designed to provide the knowledge and experience necessary to become an effective school administrator. The demand for competent individuals to fill these positions is consistently increasing. Courses in this track cover a wide spectrum of content-specific areas, ranging from school finance to human resource management, all of which of which are essential to the efficient, daily operation of educational institutions. This master’s specialization culminates with an Internship / Practicum experience that allows the student to observe and participate in management and organizational activities. The Educational Administration specialization is ideally suited for administrative work in schools as principal, assistant principals, or other leadership roles. Students who want Texas Principal Certification must be Texas certified teachers with a minimum of two years teaching experience to be eligible to take the Texas principal certification exam.

A total of 5 credit hours of the following:

Note - Students are required to have a total of 5 hours from this section.  Students planning to sit for the exam, need 4 Practicums and only 1 course from Special Topics for 5 total.

Students not sitting for the exam and want to do Action Research will need 2 Special Topics plus the 3 Action Research classes for 5 total.

Requirements for Admission to the Educator Preparation Program

Per Texas Education Agency guidelines, students seeking Principal Certification must be admitted to the Educator Preparation Program (EPP). This is separate from being admitted to the University. After a student is admitted to the University, education students must meet the following requirements in order to be admitted into the EPP:

  • Conferred Bachelor degree
  • Overall cumulative GPA of 2.5 OR 2.5 in the last 60 hours OR GRE scores as follows:
    • Verbal Reasoning 143-157
    • Quantitative Reasoning 140-155
    • Analytical Writing 3.0-4.5
  • Complete EPP Application
  • Return formal letter of admission with TEA fee

Requirements for Texas Principal Certification

Two years of experience as a classroom teacher, as defined by chapter 230, subchapter Y of Title 19 -Texas Administrator Code, is required. Students must provide evidence of two years of teaching experience, a current teaching certificate, and pass the Principal practice exam with the score of at least 75% before they are eligible to apply to the Certification Office to take the TExES Principal exam. Upon receiving a successful score on the TExES Principal exam, and completing all other program coursework for the Master of Education, Educational Administration, students may apply to be recommended for state certification. Total Credit Hours: 30

*Courses required for Principal Certification. MEDU 5911 - Certification Preparation for Principal Candidates  must be taken before student can take the practice test purchased from the state. Students who pass the practice test with a score of 75% or above will be issued a test approval that will allow them to take the state TExES test.
