Dual Credit Academic Policies

WHAT IS LETOURNEAU UNIVERSITY’S DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM?

The Dual Credit Program is a partnership linking LeTourneau University with secondary schools, homeschool enrichment groups, and homeschooling families. Its primary mission is to offer qualified high school students the opportunity to enroll in college level courses while also completing requirements for high school graduation. Through this, LETU broadens affordability and accessibility to a nationally reputable education. The desired outcome of the dual credit program is that students will ultimately enroll full-time to complete a bachelor’s degree from LeTourneau University.

DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM ACADEMIC POLICIES

The academic administration of the Dual Credit program is under the leadership of the Dean of the College of Education, Arts and Sciences (CEAS).  The relevant academic department chairs for the disciplines oversee the Dual Credit Program courses. The LETU Dual Credit Handbook describes the procedures through which the Dual Credit Program staff implement the policies.

Eligibility Requirements

The program is open to high school students from 9th through 12th grade. Eligibility ends at the conclusion of the spring semester of the student’s senior year in high school.  Students are eligible to take dual credit courses for a maximum of four years (high school freshman – senior years). We do not recognize eligibility for dual credit beyond the senior year.  Students in statuses such as super senior years, fifth year senior years, or gap years are not allowed to enroll as a dual credit student.

Admissions Policies

Students must have a 3.0 unweighted GPA to be admitted to the Program.

  • Students who attend high schools that have written partnership agreements with LETU will have their GPA confirmed by a high school representative.

  • Students who attend non-partner high schools will submit a transcript annually.

  • Parents of homeschooled students will complete a provided transcript form annually.

Students may enroll in a maximum of 9 credit hours per semester, or 10 credit hours if taking a lab science course. Students may accrue a maximum of 48 credit hours through the Dual Credit Program.

Approved Courses

LETU’s academic departments determine the courses they will make available to dual credit students and the locations and modalities through which they will allow the courses to be offered. All dual credit courses span 15 weeks. The lists of approved courses for dual credit students are available here.
